This schematic shows an open vented system with a solid fuel stove and a solar panel as its heat sources, and two radiator zones and a domestic hot water (DHW) cylinder as the load.


The DHW cylinder acts as the heat leak for the solid fuel stove, but it is also being heated by the solar panel.

The NRG Zone 4 manifold ensures that the central heating zones and the DHW cylinder have access to the warmest possible water for their flow. At the same time, it allows any unused heat from the solar panel to have a direct bypass back to the Solid Fuel appliance to minimise condensation in the Solid Fuel appliance. This is beneficial since condensation in the solid fuel appliance can lead to corrosion in the appliance.

The Flap type NRV between the Expansion Pipe & the Cold Feed The Flap type NRV in the connection pipe between the Expansion Pipe & the Cold Feed pipe will assist to prevent any expanding volume from rising up & over the Expansion outlet above the tank, thereby helping to prevent ‘pitching-over’ the expansion tank.

This will greatly reduce the amount of fresh water being induced into the system and so reduce corrosion of the internal system ferrous parts.
